Keeping an Eye on Sustainability with Women of Interest

Women of Interest and Wellington Sustainability Group invite Gippslanders to a timely discussion on the Geothermal potential of our region, from 6.30pm at Duart in Maffra on Wednesday July the 27th, 2011.

Guests are asked to dress up sustainably, which means you wear something that is either hand made, recycled or at least 5 years old!   Jenny Feist from Women of Interest explained that, “It’s all about avoiding overt consumerism“.

In keeping with this theme, the Christmas tradition of Kris Kringle is also designed to be consumption free. If Guests would like to be part of this novel gift exchange, they are invited to contribute something sustainable which might be home grown, homemade or recycled.

Christmas Dinner will have a focus on local and seasonal produce , with a passing nod to mediaeval  feasting. The chef is excited about the idea, so expect it to be quite special!

The final important part of the evening will be an address from Professor Rachel Webster of Melbourne University, who will enlighten us as to what is involved and how Gippsland might benefit from it ‘s excellent Geothermal potential.

So get frocked up in your “old Favourite” winter warmers and come for an evening of good food, good company and some thought provoking information on our clean energy potential.

Bookings are essential and can be made through Collins Booksellers Sale, by  Friday July the 22nd.  Please advise at the time of booking if you have any dietary requirement

Ethical Paper Purchasing Campaign

The Wilderness Society has received some great support for their Ethical Paper campaign encouraging purchase of responsibly sourced paper.

Currently Australian Paper are logging native forests rather than utilising plantation timber for paper production.  There is also plenty of technology and current practice to support fully recycled post-consumer paper.

You can pledge as an individual or as an organisation.....log onto to find out more information and give your support.

Buy Green Gippsland Survey

Gippsland Climate Change Network is working with WSG, Wellington Shire and EcoBuy to prepare Climate Communities funding application for a green purchasing project.

Buy Green Gippsland is a proposed new program to help local communities buy products which are better for the environment, and it would be great if you could spare a couple of minutes to complete a very simple (and short) online survey letting us know what you think.  Your answers will be kept confidential, and will help GCCN gauge the level of community interest in the program. Just click on this link to complete the survey by 5 April
