WearableArt GippslandEvent is an exciting competition encouraging you to create fantastic art, to be worn out of all kinds of recycled materials - limited by your own imagination! The judging of entries will happen at the WAG event on Saturday 9th October. Winning entries will then be on show at Earth Fest 2010 on Saturday 16th October. It's not too late to enter. Check out their facebook page for information and inspiration (there are some pics there to give you ideas). For entry details, contact 5144 4565.

Exciting recycled clothing at Earth Fest!

As part of the WAG event, they have run several workshops to generate interest and build skills in creating fun and wearable fashions from recycled clothing.  In keeping with the Reduce, Re-use and Recycle theme of the festival, a special workshop will be held on the Festival Showcase Market Day, Saturday 16th October.

Alice Rose Gunn-Swing (The Swing Machine - http://swingmachinecostumes.blogspot.com/) will guide participants in re-modelling old clothes into the height or artistic fashion.
The workshop will run from 11am to 3pm - prior booking is essential with a maximum of 15 places available.
Cost $15.  More details will be posted soon about what you need to bring.

Youth Council create a Youth Space and Great Music for the Festival!

There will be a strong Youth focus and some great entertainment thanks to the hard work of Wellington Shire Youth Council

The Wellington Shire Youth Council will be running stalls that assist with the education of sustainability, but also provide positive outlooks for success and promotion. The Youth Council will be looking at the terms Refuse, Re-use, Reduce, Recycle, and Repair.

The stalls will coincide with these terms, and will educate young people on how they can be proactive in each of these fields.

The Youth Council will also have a ‘Youth Space’ that will allow young people to get together in ‘festival’ style. This space will be created with recycled materials, the focus being bean bags created from recycled clothing, filled with shredded paper.

The Youth Council will be encouraging local young musicians and bands to become involved in Earth Fest. This will help to provide a positive atmosphere to attendees, but will also showcase young talent from the area.

The Stage will be operating from 12:00 – 5:00 pm, with 45 minute sets. The bands will be encouraged to provide audience participation, and will be acknowledged for their contributions to the event. The stage will provide for many different styles and genre, and will be a focal point for the event.

1 clr logo2There will also be busking during the Festival, which will be located in two different locations of the ground, and as attendees walk through there will be a crossover and flow of music. Buskers will be playing for one hour with a 15 minute overlap, in the other location, at either end of their set. This will provide for 30 minutes of solo time, and a fifteen minute cross over when the begin and end, this will cater for any delays and also contribute to a successful flow.

Introducing Earth Fest Patron - Tim Lee

As the second annual Earth Fest approaches on 16 October 2010, Wellington Sustainability Group are pleased to announce this year’s patron is locally born journalist, Tim Lee.

In a career spanning more than 20 years, Tim has travelled to almost every part of Australia, exploring and reporting on rural issues for ABC Television and Radio. He grew up at Bushy Park and began his career in Gippsland, where he is well–known for his work as a rural broadcaster for ABC radio and before that, as a television reporter for Southern Cross News.

These days Tim is based in Melbourne and since 2001 he has been a reporter for the award-winning rural and regional current affairs program “Landline”.

Reflecting the growing awareness of the need to conserve the planet’s finite resources, the theme of sustainability has become increasingly prominent in Tim’s work in recent years. From innovation in Australia’s remote deserts to irrigation efficiencies and stories on biological farming and Permaculture, his work has won many media prizes, including a Melbourne Press Club Quill Award, Rural Press Club of Victoria Awards and a United Nations’ Media Peace Award.

Tim Lee will be speaking at the Earth Fest official opening at Stratford Courthouse Theatre 7pm on Friday 15th October prior to a screening of “The Yes Men Fix the World”.

Tim will also be involved in the festival Market Day at Stratford Primary School on Saturday 16th October, which is a FREE community event.  For more details email: wellingtonsustainabilitygroup@gmail.com
